Scraps began in an old, historic building on the south end of downtown Larned. It was a big, beautiful building, with lots of space, and lots of potential. We were there for our first year of operation, and made great use of the space, hosting several “open mic nights”, where local musicians cold come and play and/or sing. It was a grand time. During this time the foundation for Scraps was laid.
About halfway through our first year, we realized that renting space would not allow us to grow into what we wanted to be. We began looking for a space we could call our own. During this process, we toured the old “Game Time” building, a building with bright colored walls that used to be a youth activity center (see pictures). After looking at this building, Mark said “no way!”. Tayleene, however, saw the hidden potential of this building. In late 2007 we began negotiations to secure this building, and in January of 2008 work began on the remodel (again, see the pictures). The result is the cozy, comfortable Scraps we know and love today, and we couldn’t be happier with our move.
When Scraps first opened, our only service lines were scrapbooking and the coffee bar. It didn’t take long to recognize the need for a lunch spot downtown, so we started serving lunch shortly after we opened. From there our service lines have expanded considerably. We now offer catering services, custom invitations, wedding coordination services, bridal registry, tuxedo rental, women’s accessories, gift items and more. We try to identify services that are lacking in the community, and meet those needs as they fit into our business plan.
